Hi Lukas, a great question you asked!
While reviewing the app and scoring its privacy, I look over a few critical factors:
1. The data it collects by reading the app’s Privacy Policy on their developer’s website
2. The data it says it collects from the AppStore page (under the App Privacy section)
3. The review of the app online
4. The user reviews/comments for the app on the AppStore page and relevant sources
Bitwarden is an excellent utility because it comes with many features without breaking the bank; it is not the most trusted or safest option.
I suggest reading the Privacy Policy section of Bitwarden on their website. Under the section: Administrative Data, they have written what data they collect from their users. Here is the link for you.
Furthermore, when it comes to privacy, two things are worth noting:
- If you don’t pay for the product, you are the product.
- Unless you have your data saved on your device, your data is never private, no matter the encryption technology companies claim to use for their users’ data.
Thank you for reading the story and asking a great question. I hope my answer helped you better understand the reasoning behind why I scored Bitwarden the way I scored in my story.
